Announcing the winner of the
2018 UA President's Innovation Challenge

Congratulations to all of the participants for their innovative solutions and hard work!

Details about challenge outcomes here.

Alaska is home to innovative, brilliant people.

Some of us remember Alaska's statehood, some of us are mid-career, and others of us are just making our way in the world - ALL of us have the ability to address challenges facing our community. The University of Alaska is calling on us to focus our creativity, ingenuity, and collaborative ability to solve community problems during the President’s Innovation Challenge in Anchorage, beginning on Friday, March 9 and concluding on Friday, March 23.

Here's how it works:

The Innovation Challenge occurs in three phases: Kick-offTeam Work, and Solution Showcase

Prior to the Innovation Challenge Kick-off, you, the members of our community, are invited to submit problems for challenge participants to solve. The deadline is Wednesday, March 7; however, if you're a participant you may add a problem to the list during the Kick-off (although we encourage you to submit your problems prior).

Phase 1: Kick-off. During the Kick-off, participants will form teams around the challenges they want to solve, and spend the day using innovation tools to develop solutions.

Phase 2: Team Work. Three to five teams will be selected to move forward to the next phase, Team Work, which will include meeting with experts and advisers as the teams work to test and validate their solutions.

Phase 3: Solution Showcase. On March 23, the winner will be selected during the Solution Showcase, and not only win prize money ($5,000 - first place; $2,000 - second place; $1,000 third place) but will also work with the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development to create an implementation plan for their solution!
